What is a Project Manager?

What functions do they perform?

There are several specific tasks that construction managers perform: project management planning, cost management, quality management, contract administration and safety management.

Let's look at what all of these involve:

Project management planning. This initial stage involves drawing up a plan for the entire project, including the various jobs to be done, the materials required and a schedule.

Economic control. Construction managers must constantly monitor costs, making adjustments if unexpected problems or complications arise.

Quality management. Projects often involve numerous contractors and subcontractors; construction managers must ensure that everyone is doing a good job.

Contract management. Long contracts with the client are part of all construction projects, and it is the construction manager's job to make sure that all contracts are in place.

Safety Management. Construction sites are fraught with potential safety hazards that construction managers must be aware of in order to take appropriate action.
